When my mother asked me to look for a way that my kosher foodie family and my non-kosher foodie family could spend Thanksgiving together, I immediately suggested we get together on the…

I've discovered that what I want now in a car today is drastically different from what I wanted in a car pre-mommy. After I became a mom for the first time at 37 years young (I am a 20 year old trapped in a 41 year old body), it wasn't just about me and my husband anymore. In fact, my husband is a serious V…

This is a story that I read in a newsletter from KosherToday,
http://www.koshertoday.com/news.asp#story108. I attended Kosherfest both Tuesday and Wednesday last week at the amount of food at the Meadowlands Expo Center was tremendous. After the show, the first place the food was headed was not in the garbage, but to feed the Jewish Poor. Here is more on this story of Chesed.

Sometimes when you pick up your child
you can feel the map of your own bones beneath your hands,
or smell the scent of your skin in the nape of his neck.
This is the
most extraordinary thing about motherhood -
finding a piece of yourself separate and apart
that all the same you could not live without.

Parents are not supposed to have favorites, but in our family of five, Mom and Dad did. I don’t blame them, because it wasn’t their fault.
Mom lost her mother when she was 12-1/2. Through a metal fence that wrapped around a Ghetto in Poland, Mom kissed her mother goodbye. The last physical sensation of her mother would be the tug that removed a yellow star sown onto her jacket.
Dad also lost his family early in his life. His Mother, Father and most of his siblings died in Auschwitz.
How were the…

AFTERNOON TEA by J. R. LaGreca
Chapter One
The Roses
The town of Clinton, Connecticut lay beneath mounds of freshly fallen
snow. A lone shadow against the New England landscape, Lawrence Gray’s
gnarled form veered alongside the cathedral to the Saint James Cemetery.

I grew up in a very safe and secure suburb in the Midwest. My home was as normal as one can be; we had dinner together and watched the annual airing of movies like The Wizard of Oz and The Sound of Music. My mom hosted extended family during Passover, Thanksgiving, and Rosh Hashanah. I…

Any ideas for how to discuss the war with your kids? My son is 3, and I know lots of folks would say he's too young, just shield him. But I don't believe that. I think there's got to be an age-appropriate way to explain to him what's going on. (I think it's unrealistic anyway -- with so much family in Ashkelon and the IDF, we talk about it constantly. Last week, he heard his cousin saying he didn't want to go to Savta's for shabbos because he was scared of the katyushas).
